Samantha Barnes

Samantha has been practising as a psychologist for seventeen years working with individuals and groups in rural, urban and hospital settings. She has worked in a range of areas including health, disability and mental health in public and private services. In addition to seeing people at Likeminds, she works as a Clinical Psychologist at a major tertiary hospital.

Samantha provides therapy to people across a range of ages from late teens to adults and older adults. She is experienced working with people facing a wide range of physical health, mental health and interpersonal challenges. Samantha is strongly committed to working alongside her clients to enhance their sense of psychological safety, autonomy and capacity – to support their meaningful participation in life and connection with others. This involves helping people connect with their unique inner strengths and capacities and engendering real and purposeful hope.

Samantha draws on a range of therapeutic traditions. She has many years experience in using cognitive and behavioural therapy approaches. Her practice draws heavily on Mindfulness based models, and incorporates Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. More importantly, she brings genuine kindness, curiosity and empathy to her work with others, while being committed to achieving meaningful and sustained change.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (Psychology) with Honours
  • Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology)
